2003 Washington Poets Association First Annual Student Poetry Summit

On April 12 WPA held its first Student Summit — a workshop and awards luncheon especially for students.

What the participants said:

No time could be more fulfilling than this — this knowledge gained, this cultivation of thought. A garden grows in my mind and it is those such as you that provide sun and room to grow... I hope to come next time.
I love poetry and language and I found poetry and language in this place-therefore, I love this place.
Poetry Summit: super-fabulous, worthwhile. Hope to come again. The exercises helped me to expand the type of poetry I write.
I like the games that we played where we were given a poem and had to translate it! I enjoyed it. Thanks for having me!
I thought this workshop was really nice. I especially enjoyed having my poetry critiqued. I liked getting feedback from other kids my age and from adults.
I came today not knowing what to expect. I just came to support my friend, but didn't know that it would be a memorable experience for me as well. I enjoyed hearing the work of other students, reflecting on it, and discussing it. I think the most valuable part of the day was the writing exercises that we did. I would have liked to do more of that.
This workshop was pretty fun. I loved making poems based on questions. I wish we did more of it. BIG FUN.
This was a worthwhile event that is meant for any poet of any kind. A must for anyone who enjoys the art and wants to know more.

The sponsors enjoyed the students just as much and are looking forward to next year.
