At Historic Greenbank Farm, Whidbey Island, WA The Washington Poets Association will commemorate its 34th anniversary next year by presenting Burning Word 2005, a dynamic, all-day celebration of poetry, music, performance, and workshops, featuring more than 40 talented poets and musicians, ranging from internationally acclaimed, award-winning poets to hot new talents you'll want to discover. "This year's inaugural Burning Word was a wonderful success with over 300 people enjoying the performances and presentations of talented poets and musicians," says WPA Board Executive Vice President and Festival Chair, Victory Lee Schouten. "Burning Word 2004 was a true celebration of poetry, music and community which transcended age and style. We all left the festival inspired, and immediately began plans for an even better festival in 2005." The 2005 Main Stage will feature the performances of more than 40 accomplished poet/performers beginning at 10 AM and running non-stop until 7:30 PM. Poets already confirmed include distinguished poet, translator, and editor, Sam Hamill. Some of the other outstanding main stage talent includes: Bart Baxter, Sean Bentley, bill bissett, Dustin Fox, Matt Gano, Tara Hardy, Jana Harris, Lorraine Heally, Chris Jarmick, Peter Pereira, Charles Potts, Dan Raphael, Mary Lou Sanelli, Sarah Singer, Buddy Wakefield, and Koon Woon to name just a few. A second venue at Greenbank Farm's charming Jim Davis House, will become the House of Open Mics with more than 5 hours of hosted open mic opportunities where all interested poets will have a chance to read their work beginning bright and early at 9 AM! A large tent will provide the third festival venue which will host educational Poetry and Publication Workshops presented by noted poets and teachers from 9 AM until 7:30 PM. Presenters include Elizabeth Austen, bill bissett, Michael Dylan Welch, Tara Hardy, Leonard Orr, and Stephen Roxborough. Burning Word festival will also host a Book & Small Press Fair, a Poetry Book Exchange Table and an art/poetry installation by regional artists, the Dharmic Engineers. While at Greenbank Farm, festival goers can enjoy expansive water views, a hike on the miles of beautiful trails, a delicious lunch or dessert at Whidbey Pies Cafe, or a glass of wine at the Farm's Wine Shop.
