Guests Comment on Burning Word 2006

It has to be one of the highlights of my life--to have been with Madeline and Carolyn in this wonderful venue. I love the spirit of Burning Word. Nothing petty or competitive. Poetry flowing! I think the only thing I saw that clattered along was the xerox machine at check out! Other than that, hey, it was perfect! No matter the weather was gusting and lashing rain.

Congratulations on Burning Word!! Well done. Re 2007, thank you for getting Naomi Shihab Nye. It doesn't get any better than that!

The Burning Word Small Press Book Fair helped me as a writer and publisher. I had numerous stimulating conversations with festival attendees, learning from others' observations and reciprocating via my own thoughts and publications. Sales were steady and solid, and I made a small profit. Moreover, from my vantage point in the loft, I was able to see and hear most of the performing poets during their Main Stage recitations. What better way to spend a spring afternoon than hearing, reciting, and discussing poetry? I definitely plan to exhibit and sell Rose Alley Press books at next April's Burning Word. I also plan to volunteer distributing flyers and posters, as I did this year.

I was not so enamoured of the weather, but survived. I didn't have a chance to fill out the survey, but all in all, I'd say Grade A+ for the entire day. And, be still my heart, Naomi Nye at 2007! Oh joy, oh joy. She is definitely on one of my poetry pedestals!

It was a fine festival, despite the weather. As usual, I enjoyed what I attended and then heard about what went on elsewhere and wished that I had been able to be there too. Paul Hunter's 9 a.m. workshop was especially electrifying. Unfortunately, I was so chilled through by the end of Ilya Kaminsky's excellent workshop that I went home. Next year I'll bundle up, just in case. Perhaps the material for the 2007 event should contain the suggestion to Bring Warm Clothes, just in case -- the usual layering advice. It was certainly a tribute to the event that so many people came, and stayed despite the weather.

I enjoyed meeting you and other poets at Burning Word. I like the one-day format. The event was well organized, and I would like to participate again next year.

Burning Word for me is my new, New Years Day. I've had the privilege of attending all three. My year now runs from April to April. There is a spiritual wind running through the entire day. I have to say, Tara took it all, and always will.

I loved Burning Word. To see Gallagher, Madeline and Kizer all at the same time!! Whoooeeee.

This year was our first time attending Burning Word and it was a great experience. The energy and enthusiasm of the day was contagious! We appreciated the chance to meet other PNW publishers (and poets!) and hope to see some more new faces in the Small Press Faire next year. Many Thanks!
