2008 WPA Poetry Contest Submission GuidelinesCascade: Journal of the Washington Poets AssociationAndThe William Stafford Award
Submissions for Cascade are now combined with the William Stafford award.
All members of the Washington Poets Association are eligible and encouraged to submit poems to Cascade: Journal of the Washington Poets Association, an annual, juried collection of poetry. Poetry will be blind judged by a panel of independent judges. Top selections (one poem per selected poet) will be published in the journal. All WPA members will receive a copy of the journal, regardless of whether they submit poetry or whether one of their poems is selected. This is our way of saying thanks for being a member and supporting our mission to inspire the creation and appreciation of poetry. Rules
William Stafford AwardThe William Stafford Award, begun in 1972, is the Washington Poets Association's longest-running and most-prestigious poetry contest. For 2008, the WPA is changing the process by which it chooses the Stafford contest winners. Instead of our receiving entries submitted with a fee, Stafford winners will be chosen from poems submitted to the WPA's annual journal, Cascade. The award is therefore open only to WPA members (although anyone may join), and will require no entry fee. The judges will automatically consider all poems submitted to Cascade for the Stafford Award. Prizes are $150 for first place, $100 for second place, and $75 for third place. Judges will be announced soon. To submit to the 2008 Stafford Award, please see the Cascade submission guidelines. The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2008. The William Stafford Award will award prizes of $150, $100, and $75 and will have two additional, unpaid honorable mention awards.
